Do you know what S-A-A stands for? SAA is our Student Alumni Association right here on campus.
Last year the club faced some difficult times, as a lot of members graduated. This year SAA is making a comeback and rebuilding the club by adding new members.
The goal of SAA is to unite current students with alumni. SAA holds several functions throughout the year in which students have the opportunity to be involved with events that alumni are invited to attend. Not only does this club offer great networking opportunities, it also gives students a chance to get more involved around campus.
Why connect with alumni? Alumni are important to our college for many reasons, one being that they like to give back to Moravian. In some way, every student on campus has benefited from a donation made by alumni. Whether the alumni donation is directed toward a scholarship or a new football helmet-we benefit from alumni giving back.
Also, this club allows for students to get to know more about the history of the college through stories of MoCo's past students. Alumni are happy to tell you tales about when Colonial Hall used to be a dormitory and how it used to be mandatory for all freshmen to wear hats called 'dinks.'
SAA is already busy building an impressive events calendar for this school year; the first of which will take place on Thursday, Oct. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Pavilion.
This event, an ice cream social, will be co-sponsored by IMPACT and gives students a chance to meet and mingle with alumni young and old. The hope is to spark interest in alumni relations and build connections between students and alumni.
The headquarters for SAA is the Alumni House, a house you may become more familiar with after graduation, and is tucked away behind Colonial Hall. Even though you may not be an alumnus yet, you are always welcome to the Alumni House.
Remember SAA's motto, "Students for four years, alumni for life!"
If you want to get more information about SAA, contact any member on the SAA Executive Board. The board includes president Nick Heimbach '09, vice president Steph Dorney '11 and secretary Rachel Kleiner '11.
